Intel is reportedly halting NUC mini PC range

Intel has released some impressive mini PCs over the years as part of the NUC line of products. Unfortunately, NUC's future is now in doubt, with reports claiming that Intel recently decided internally to halt further investment.

According to Serve The Home, Intel sent an email to partners confirming that the company will not be making any additional investment in the NUC business unit. The NUC business unit was responsible for a range of products, including mini-PCs, NUC kits, NUC boards, and NUC laptop kits.

In a statement sent to Serve The Home, an Intel spokesperson offered confirmation, saying:

“We have decided to stop direct investment in the Next Unit of Compute (NUC) Business and pivot our strategy to enable our ecosystem partners to continue NUC innovation and growth. This decision will not impact the remainder of Intel’s Client Computing Group (CCG) or Network and Edge Computing (NEX) businesses. Furthermore, we are working with our partners and customers to ensure a smooth transition and fulfilment of all our current commitments.”

Intel NUC systems are typically sold as barebone systems, only packing essential components like memory, storage, and an OS. Users have the flexibility to customise the NUC by adding their preferred components to meet their specific requirements. As for the NUC kits, they typically include the motherboard and a CPU with an iGPU.

Based on Intel's statement above, it is possible that partners release their own NUC PCs in the future but Intel itself will not be investing in or creating NUC products themselves moving forward.

KitGuru says: If you own a NUC product under warranty, that will still be covered, even if Intel isn't making brand new NUC products.
