After previously reviewing a prebuilt PC worth over £3000, I wasn't sure what I'd make of the Cyberpower Ultra 33 bundle. After using it or the last week, I have to say my actual experience when gaming and using this setup was excellent, I even forgot it was a budget build because nothing hindered the fun I was having while gaming.
Admittedly, the keyboard and mouse are very budget but once I was locked into a gaming session, I didn’t even notice the lower quality peripherals. I love the Epos GSP 300 headset, this is more premium than the keyboard and mouse coming in at around £70 just for the headset and I like that they chose the headset as a priority here because sound is a seriously key point of any immersion and they were comfortable too. The same can be said for the MSI G241V monitor, the 75Hz refresh is great and I believe there’s a perceivable difference in comparison to 60Hz refresh displays, it runs very smoothly and again it didn’t hinder the immersion at all.
This isn’t a dead-end system either. The MSI B450 Tomahawk Max II motherboard supports a range of AM4 CPUs and with the latest BIOS update, it does support Ryzen 5000 series processors, that means you have a large scope of upgrade paths for the CPU alone, you could for instance upgrade from the Ryzen 3 3200G to the 6-core Ryzen 5 5600X, which is amazing for gamers.
There's also potential storage upgrades to consider. The system ships with a 1TB NVMe drive and yes, the motherboard only offers a single M.2 slot – but it has 6 unused SATA ports, so there’s plenty of scope to add in SATA SSDs for game drives or even HDDs for mass storage.
The big one here is of course the graphics card, there’s plenty of options out there that will make a world of difference to your gaming performance. Bear in mind though, getting a more powerful graphics card will most likely require you to also upgrade the power supply as the system only has a 450W PSU currently. The GTX 1650 currently used is powered by a 6+2 PCIe power cable, upgrading to the likes of an RTX 3060 or an AMD 6600 XT for instance should only require a single 8-pin, so switching to one of these newer cards would be very easy even for a novice.
Overall, I really enjoyed testing the Cyberpower Ultra 33 bundle, it was easy to set up, looks great, the visuals and sound are very good and despite it being a budget system I think it performed very well too. Our NVMe drive outperformed its own read and write speed claims, we still managed to mainly get above 60FPS in almost all games when using sensible image quality settings. Nothing spoilt my gaming immersion at all.
The biggest drawbacks are the mouse and keyboard, these are very budget but costs had to be cut somewhere and honestly, I’m glad this was where the cuts were made as upgrading your mouse and keyboard is easy. The only other bug-bear is having to adjust the fans manually via the included remote as the fans themselves are not PWM.
