Games Performance
For our games testing, we looked at five popular titles released over the last year or so, testing at 1080p, 1440p and 4K. Using the 3900 and RTX 2080 Super, we see some impressive frame rates across the board from this system, particularly from less demanding titles like Doom Eternal and Far Cry New Dawn where gaming at over 100FPS at 1440p is very achievable.
Tougher titles like Gears 5 and Read Dead Redemption 2, however, see average frame rates closer to 75FPS at 1440p. On the other hand, when playing at 1080p, all of our games bar RDR2 outputted over 100FPS at that resolution. In my opinion, if you have a high refresh rate 1080p or 1440p panel, this machine is going to keep you happy.
The only thing I would say, is that 4K gaming isn't really going to cut the mustard. You can do it, but average frame rates in our tougher titles struggled to push past the mid-40s and the 1% lows were down in the 30s, so you'd need to adjust some settings to hit the 60FPS mark. It's still playable, just not as enjoyable as 1440p gaming in my opinion.
