AS SSD is a great free tool designed just for benching Solid State Drives. It performs an array of sequential read and write tests, as well as random read and write tests with sequential access times over a portion of the drive. AS SSD includes a sub suite of benchmarks with various file pattern algorithms but this is difficult in trying to judge accurate performance figures.
AS SSD only deals with incompressible data and as such this benchmark isn’t ideally suited to the Sandforce controller.
For some reason we experienced a ‘glitch' with the acc.time read test, failing to deliver any result. That said, it didn't effect the overall scores, which were quite good, and similar to the MemoRight MS-701 240GB mSATA drive.
OCZ's Indilinx Everest 2 drives, such as the Vertex 4 dominate this benchmark.
Some other comparisons from leading manufacturer drives, which we have tested in recent months.
My dell laptop has one of these ports, im tempted to buy one, move out my 2.5 inch SSD in it – use that in my desktop. and then add a 1TB 2.5 inch drive to my laptop.
Win all round!
Slightly disappointed in the cost of these right now, it makes it hard to justify a purchase, even if the motherboard supports it.
