Seagate FireCuda 520N 1TB SSD Review

We used CrystalDiskMark 8 to test the random performance of the drive at lower queue depths (QD1 – QD8 where most of the everyday workloads occur) using 1 to 4 threads.

Random Read

In the random read QD1-QD8 tests the drive pulled through all the tested queue depths smoothly without any problems using one to four threads. With a single thread, the performance ranges between 19,142 IOPS (78.40MB/s) at QD1 to 124,611 IOPS (510.41MB/s) at QD32. Using four threads the drive goes from 75,732 IOPS (310.20MB/s) at QD1 up to 323,169 IOPS (1,323MB/s) at QD32.

Random Write

In the 4K write tests, the performance rose quickly from QD1 to QD2 for all four tested threads with the fastest rise seen in the three and four-threaded tests. All four threads see the rate of increase in performance levelling off from QD2 onwards up to the end of the test run at QD8. QD1 performance ranges from 65,638 IOPS (231MB/s) using a single thread up to 189,549 IOPS (776MB/s) using four threads.
