The PRO-G40 comes in a small stout box with a good clear image of the drive on the front. Above the image and to the right is a small panel that displays the capacity of the drive and the read & write performance using a Thunderbolt 3 connection. Under the image and to the right are three icons which represent; Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C connections. ultra-rugged construction and the fact the drive is backed by a 5-year warranty. The rear of the box has a labelled image of the dual mode port under which are multilingual statements about the dual connection and the fact the drive has an aluminium core.
One side panel of the box displays a statement that the drive can move 50GB of data in 30 seconds or less with a Thunderbolt 3 connection and that it has IP68 dust/water, 4000lb crush and 3m drop resistance. The other side panel displays the box contents, how the drive is formatted and its size.
The pocket-sized PRO-G40 has been designed around an aluminium core that helps to keep the internal SSD cool. Externally the drive is stylishly finished in charcoal and dark grey with a hard plastic top panel and a silicone covered base for extra protection. The silicon cover also runs up the sides of the drive as well.
Using the CrystalDiskInfo utility the drive inside the PRO-G40 is recognised as a WD Black SN750E. To be able to offer both Thunderbolt 3 and USB 3.2, the drive makes use of a JHL7440 Titan Ridge (Thunderbolt 3) controller in combination with an ASMedia ASM2362 (USB 3.2) bridge IC.
At one end of the drive is the metal-reinforced combined Thunderbolt 3 and USB3.2 Gen 2 USB-C port. At the same end as the port and recessed into the top panel of the drive is a white activity LED.
