Patriot PXD 1TB External SSD Review

The PXD comes in a stout box with a window that enables the drive to be seen. To the right of the window are three icons that display three features of the drive; compact form factor, lightweight design and capacity. To the left of the window at towards the bottom of the box are a pair of icons displaying the drive's compatibility with Windows and Mac systems.

The rear of the box has a paragraph explaining the drive under which are short multilingual lists describing the PXD's main features.

The pocket-sized PXD measures 103 x 31 x 9.8mm and thanks to its aluminium construction, it weighs in at a mere 37g. Inside the drive, there is a Phison PS5013-E13T controller looking after 1TB of 3D TLC NAND. The PS5013-E13T is a 4-channel DRAM-less design that uses a PCIe Gen 3 x 4, NVMe 1.3 interface, supporting both 3D TLC and QLC NAND. It uses Phison's 4th generation low-density parity-check (LDPC) ECC algorithm for improved drive reliability.

The PXD uses a USB 3.2 Type-C connection. Next to the USB port is a drive activity LED.

Bundled in with the drive are Type-C to Type-C and Type-C to Type-A cables.
