IOMeter is another open source synthetic benchmarking tool which is able to simulate the various loads placed on hard drive and solid state drive technology.
We test with both random read and write 4k tests, as shown above. There are many ways to measure the IOPS performance of a Solid State Drive, so our results will often vary between the manufacturer’s quoted ratings.
The Kingston V310 drive suffers massively in the IOMETER 4K random read and write tests, way behind the latest drives from Samsung and OCZ. Kingstons official claims for random are 40,000 read and 20,000 write. Our read result is higher than Kington's claims, but the write result is a little worse. Either way, when we see close to 90,000 read/write results from the Samsung 840 EVO 1TB drive, Kingston's do pale in comparison.
