Gigabyte introduces the Aorus 5000E Gen4 M.2 SSD

Gigabyte is launching a new PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSD for the masses. With up to 1TB of storage space, the new Aorus 5000E SSD delivers Gen4-level speeds, making it a worthwhile upgrade for anyone still using PCIe 3.0 and SATA M.2 drives.

With 500GB and 1TB storage options, the 3D TLC NAND-based Aorus 5000E NVMe 1.4 SSD delivers up to 5,000MB/s sequential read and 4,600MB/s sequential write speeds. As part of its feature set, the SSD supports Host Memory Buffer (HMB) technology to access the host DRAM without performance loss, TRIM for garbage collection, and S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology).

During operation, Gigabyte states the new Aorus SSD consumes 30% less power than your average PCIe 4.0 SSD at just 4200mW. Using SSD Tool Box, users can monitor the utilisation and status of their drive, check the model name, temperature and firmware version, or use the Secure Erase function to clean up data. A 5-year/600TBW warranty backs the 1TB model. As for the 500GB model, it's backed by a 5-year/300TBW warranty. Both models have a 1.5M MTBF (Mean time between failure).

Availability and pricing have not been confirmed yet. However, considering the current offering of PCIe 4.0 SSDs, the 1TB model should go for around £100, while the 500GB will likely cost about £60.
