Seasonic Vertex GX-1200 PSU Review

Seasonic is a brand name synonymous with quality. Over the years the company has won more awards on KitGuru than any other power supply manufacturer. You often find their supply designs in other companies high end products. We have a lot of faith in Seasonic designs and attention to the important details.

The Vertex GX is a new ATX 3.0/PCIe Gen5 design from Seasonic and while we wait on the new PRIME units to be released, the Vertex GX has certainly impressed us during testing over the last few weeks. Load regulation is some of the tightest we have seen, and the unit dealt with the demanding cross load tests with flying colours. Ripple suppression is also in the top 5% of units we have tested in the last two years.

Seasonic have not cut corners with the design of the Vertex GX. High grade Japanese Nippon Chemi Con capacitors populate the primary stage and the over-specified nature ensures the unit can maintain above 1300 Watts for a sustained period of time without issue. The GX-1200 delivers high levels of efficiency while remaining cool, and the large Fluid Dynamic Bearing fan does not create a lot of noise even when loaded up to 1000 Watts. Maximum efficiency is in the 600-800 watt power range, which will target a lot of high end systems when under full load.

The cables look and feel great – offering a decent level of flex, while looking good inside a fully lit watercooled rig and the fully modular design helps ensure a neat and tidy build can be created without any effort. With the backing of a full 10-year Seasonic warranty it is clear that the company have a lot of confidence in these supplies.
