Seasonic Platinum Fanless 520W Power Supply Review

No fan in this unit, but there are plenty of rows of heatsinks to help with cooling proficiency. The Seasonic Platinum Fanless 520W  is a synchronous unit with a DC-DC design in the secondary stage.

As we have discussed before, this means that the power supply is for all intents and purposes a 12V unit. The +3.3V and +5V outputs are produced by two smaller power supplies which are connected to the +12V  rail.

This is an ideal construction to maximise efficiency levels.

This supply has two X capacitors, four Y capacitors and ferrite coils. The primary stage of the unit uses a Hitachi 105c capacitor rated 330 µF x 420 V. The switching section uses four IPP50R250CP MOSFETS. Electrolytic capacitors in the secondary are also high grade Japanese capacitors from Rubycon and Chemi-Con.

  1. that is fantastic. what a design

  2. yeah I agree, they nailed it with that one. only thing is, very few people will spend that money on a 520W unit, even if it is amazing. just the way it is.

  3. Wow that really is spectacular

  4. They make a lot of great power supplies, including a load for other companies! I would rather buy from seasonic directly that one of hteir partners.

  5. I prefer the flat cables to the sleeved ones, they t ake up less space, especially in a mini itx case.

  6. on page 6:
“The large fan maintains good temperatures throughout, rising to a 15c above ambient intake threshold at full load”

    What large fan?

  7. an invisible fan that doesn’t exist? fixed that!
