OCZ ZX 1250W Power Supply Review

The OCZ ZX 1250W power supply is a simple looking unit with a pure black and accented yellow colour/gold scheme. It measures 150 x 175 x 86 mm (WxLxH) and has a MTBF of 100,000 hours. The matt finish does tend to attract fingerprints however.

The rear is full vented to allow for good airflow, and there is a power connector and power switch set to the side.

The large 140mm ball bearing fan takes centerstage at the top of the unit. It is a plain black fan with the ‘Z' logo stuck in the middle.

The unit is a full modular design, much like the Corsair AX series and all the connectors at the front are clearly marked and colour coded to help installation.

OCZ ZX SERIES 1250W Power Specs
Rail 3.3V 5V 12V 5VSB -12V
Max. Power 30A 30A 104A 3A 0.6A
170W 1248W Max
Total Max. Power 1250W

Specifications are impressive, with the single 12+ rail capable of delivering 104A. Hopefully the insides are just as impressive.

  1. Well thats a nice supply, amazing how the prices change for the Uk though. $240 is a good price, but it will probably translate to £240 here. UK sucks 🙂

  2. I like the cabling, thats quality. Tons of it too.

I had a bad time with the gamexstream range years ago and it put me off them, but I think they had a bit of a problem with that range, and nothing else.

  3. Can you add some real world tests? like does it power 3 HD6990s? that kinda thing ? 🙂

  4. Good to see OCZ doing other products, rather than this constant focus on just SSD’s. They used to make some damn fine memory, those were the days. I prefered their memory to corsairs.

  5. This range looks great, hey Zardon any ideas on the pricing of the lower models? an 850W in this range would really be ideal for me.

  6. Looks like a great supply, I agree with the other dude in here, 850W sounds like a good size, probably be 50-60 less too.

  7. @ Brooke. It will power any combination you need, no problem. Not sure anyone would want to power three HD6990’s mind you as you can’t actually use three in Crossfire. 🙂

  8. Great design, looks nice too

  9. What are the benefits of a pure modular design? Doesnt a system always need the atx connector anyway?

  10. Nice step up for ocz, their psus have been consistently average for years.

  11. Cant find it stocked anywhere. When is it released.? Cant see it being under £200
