FSP Aurum CM Series Gold 650W PSU review

FSP are using a Protechnic Electric fan, branded ‘MGA12012HF-A25', this is rated 12V 0.45A. This is specified to 2,400 rpm running on a fluid dynamic bearing.

Due to the 80 Plus Gold Efficiency rating, the power supply contains small, black heatsinks spaced across the PCB, some of which have sensors to control the PWM fan. FSP are using 105c rated capacitors in the Aurum CM Series Gold 650W unit which is always good to see. They are using a 105c rated 330uF/420V primary capacitor and KZE branded Japanese capacitors from United Chemi Con. Much of the design of this power supply has been handled in house.

The cables are fully sleeved into the chassis, to lower the risk of long term fraying.

  1. Just bought a new XFX branded power supply for £80, works great. Loads of choices as reviewer says.

  2. ouch, not much of a deal. Corsair make such good supplies too for no more than this at the same output.

  3. Good to see this review today. I was beginning to lose faith in the site, but seeing as this actually raises a few critical points about the PSU and doesn’t just rubber stamp it and give it an award for having turned up for the review I figure there’s still hope.

  4. Beginning to lose faith? im actually surprised you stuck it out so long Grok23 😉 Id give you an award for turning up to comment so often, but you might not like that either 🙂

  5. hehe

I’m way too old and stubborn to just move on and give up on something I like and I’ll be the first to admit that I can get a bit “passionate” about things. Well hopefully we can move past previous misunderstandings and get back to the important stuff, ie: tech stuff and reviews of new kit. 😉
