FSP Aurum CM Series Gold 650W PSU review

The FSP power supply is finished with gold accenting which compliments the highly textured black surface. This finish does not mark easily and we tested this by running a screwdriver across the side panel. It left a faint mark, but nothing that noticeable.

The ‘FSP' branding is embossed into the side panels, which is subtle yet attractive. We really do like the appearance of this product.

The large 120mm fan takes centerstage with FSP branding in the middle. Both fan and grill are black, which looks great.

The modular connectors are aligned in a neat row, with the hard wired cables emerging from the side. The connectors might not be colour coded or labelled, but they are different sizes, so it will be impossible to mess up the installation. FSP claim that the arrow shaped vents ‘allow natural aero dynamics to improve air extraction'. While we doubt they dramatically improve air extraction, the venting will surely help the warm air escape.

The other side of the power supply is vented, with a power connector and switch offset to the side.

The power supply is split into four +12v output rails, each of which is rated at 18A, which looks a little weak when compared to some other 650W power supplies we have reviewed recently. The total output is 50A across all four, which is pretty good.

  1. Just bought a new XFX branded power supply for £80, works great. Loads of choices as reviewer says.

  2. ouch, not much of a deal. Corsair make such good supplies too for no more than this at the same output.

  3. Good to see this review today. I was beginning to lose faith in the site, but seeing as this actually raises a few critical points about the PSU and doesn’t just rubber stamp it and give it an award for having turned up for the review I figure there’s still hope.

  4. Beginning to lose faith? im actually surprised you stuck it out so long Grok23 😉 Id give you an award for turning up to comment so often, but you might not like that either 🙂

  5. hehe

I’m way too old and stubborn to just move on and give up on something I like and I’ll be the first to admit that I can get a bit “passionate” about things. Well hopefully we can move past previous misunderstandings and get back to the important stuff, ie: tech stuff and reviews of new kit. 😉
