Enermax Modu87+ 700w PSU Review

You will either love or hate the look of the Enermax Modu87+ 700W PSU, the intensely bright gold fan will certainly not be to everyone's taste. When combined with the blue heatsinks it really wouldn't have looked out of place as a Cylon weapon on Battlestar Galactica last year.

Technically however it is hard not to like the supply as it delivers some of the highest efficiency figures we have recorded to date, averaging well over 90 percent in the middle of the range. Just as importantly, voltage stability was also excellent, with the 12V rail holding steady no matter what load we told it to deliver. Ripple was also impressive, particularly the 5v rail which didn't shift at all throughout all of our stress testing over the last week.

The noise levels are also a point to consider as the unit manages to remain quiet throughout all of our testing, even when under full load. We also appreciate the bundle, as Enermax supply everything you will need, including a handy little storage pouch for keeping your cables tidy.

Now for the all important price point. Doing a quick check online we have found it for £145 on Scan which means it does cost a little more than the majority of supplies in this power category. That said, very few can match the Enermax unit for efficiency and if this, combined with low noise and excellent build quality are your primary purchase requirements then this should be top of your shortlist.

KitGuru says: Another very high quality unit from Enermax and it comes highly recommended by KitGuru.

  1. I have this power supply. I got it on sale for £120 locally. I love it. As you say wouldn’t even know its on.

  2. That gold fan is intense. Not sure if I like it or not. I might need to get a pair of baggy jeans, and a gold tooth and maybe a baseball cap on backwards and start rapping.

Great results though, dont think ive ever seen a PSU score 90% in efficiency across such a broad range.

  3. Amazing to see such high efficiency levels. They dont make them now like they used to, when 80% was an achievement.

  4. Enermax are quality, I noticed some soldering issues on a few of their last range myself, but they seem better now. technically very well created supplies, good all round.

  5. Great unit indeed, some brilliant results in your testing. Its a tad on the expensive side though, especially with such good competition lately from Thermaltake and Antec. still recommended though.

  6. Great review that is a hell of a PSU, bit costly but probably worth it.

  7. thats a great review and I like the looks, its very bling, would look good with some case lighting bouncing off it !

  8. I dont think we really hear of any issues with Enermax, I would say with corsair right now they are the best.

  9. Enermax make quality products, looking forward to seeing some info on their new fans too.

  10. It really is too much cash though, 150 here can get me a 900w PSU or more. its great etc but its quite expensive.

  11. Its only expensive if you dont value the quality. there is quite a lot of internal progress with this range, the efficiency levels are very very high.

  12. I need a new power supply but I will probably go for the 775W thermaltake you guys reviewed weeks ago, its £50 less. I like quality but I also need to eat 🙂

  13. quite funny, I was looking for a review of this and went onto google, not coming to the site this morning as I usually do. First in the google search ! I laughed.

Anyway, nice PSU, great results, but I need to work out if I can afford to buy it this month now.

  14. this is very good testing, the 12v rail performance is exceptional, I like this a lot. I shall buy one next payday. thank you very much

  15. awesome review KG. efficiency is very high which I like to see, as my electic bill is already mental.
