The 120mm sleeve bearing fan (HA1225L12S-Z) is rated up to 0.33A and 1,500 rpm at 12 VDC. There is a partial clear cover across the fan to direct the air specifically across the heatsinks.
It looks as if Great Wall are the partner for this supply. The build standards are quite good, although we have seen better. There are only a few heatsinks in this unit, but with high Gold efficiency it should be fine. The Diode bridge handles AC/DC rectification of the incoming AC voltage.
Soldering quality on the main PCB is acceptable although there are some rough traces visible.
The modular connector board is clean and the Rev S2 design uses CapXon capacitors.
The Corsair CS650M uses two high grade Nippon Chemi Con primary capacitors rated 400V 270uF, although they are not the higher grade 105C caps, but less expensive 85C variants. Secondary capacitors are all by Chinese manufacturer TEAPO, which is clearly to save some costs.
All cables are protected against the metal chassis by a rubber grommet and then tied into place.
Good value, looks nice too. quality power supplies
I bought a builder series power supply from Corsair and had to return it twice, it was emitting a horrible pitch under load. is this just related to a batch of bad units, or a common corsair problem?
It is a common problem with some of them, not sure of the exact details Harris, but check out this search https://www.google.co.uk/search?client=opera&q=corsair+power+supply+whines&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&channel=suggest
Its called ‘coil’ whine – its a fairly common issue with Corsair, but it depends on who their partner is which is confusing for people. CWT can do it, but they used to use Seasonic and they don’t. personally id just pay more for Seasonic all the time.
my mates builder series also whines when he loads his 7950. he is on his second one now.
