Corsair have adopted a new box design for this range. The front features a large image of the outside of the CS chassis, highlighting the fan. Alongside is bright green and white lettering which compliments the white panels on other sides of the box. Very stylish.
The modular cables ship inside a clear plastic bag, along with a regional specific power cable and some literature on the product.
No thick foam protection in the box, just a layer of bubblewrap around the main unit itself.
Not all of the cables are modular. The main ATX cable is hardwired into the chassis, along with a 4+4 pin EPS/ATX12V cable. The main ATX cable is the only cable which is not flat, but sleeved. All of the cables are high quality.
As the diagram from Corsair shows above, the 650W unit is equipped with four 6+2 PCI E cables to suit a variety of Crossfire and SLi systems. The main cables are all 600mm long, with the exception of the 4+4 pin EPS/ATX12V cable which is longer, at 650mm.
There are also plenty of SATA cables with the 650W power supply – 6 in total, across two 700mm cables.
Good value, looks nice too. quality power supplies
I bought a builder series power supply from Corsair and had to return it twice, it was emitting a horrible pitch under load. is this just related to a batch of bad units, or a common corsair problem?
It is a common problem with some of them, not sure of the exact details Harris, but check out this search https://www.google.co.uk/search?client=opera&q=corsair+power+supply+whines&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&channel=suggest
Its called ‘coil’ whine – its a fairly common issue with Corsair, but it depends on who their partner is which is confusing for people. CWT can do it, but they used to use Seasonic and they don’t. personally id just pay more for Seasonic all the time.
my mates builder series also whines when he loads his 7950. he is on his second one now.
