BeQuiet Dark Power Pro 10 1200W PSU Review

The BeQuiet! Dark Power Pro 10 1200W is another mighty impressive power supply aimed at the wealthy, ultra high end enthusiast audience. The full bridge design by Seasonic really does deliver some fantastic results.

Load regulation is noteworthy and the design can handle a substantial load shift without suffering from any stability concerns. The 80 Plus Gold efficiency delivers a peak rating around 93 percent around 50 percent load.

Noise suppression is very similar to the 850W model which we reviewed in June. We recorded 15 mV and 15 mV from the +3.3V and +5 rail respectively under full load conditions. +12V peaked at 30mW when delivering a full load.

The acoustic performance of these power supplies really is remarkable. The SilentWings 2 fan runs at under 700 rpm throughout most of the power demand, until around 1000W is demanded from the unit.

Noise levels quickly rise in the last 150W of ultimate power delivery and at 100% load the fan is clearly audible. We can't imagine many people will be running with a constant load of over 1,110w on a regular basis however, so this supply can be classed as almost silent.

BeQuiet!’s proprietary fan design has always attracted a specialist audience who want to build a high performance, low noise system and this power supply would be a fantastic first choice for a new gaming PC.

Even with two high end graphics cards, there are very few situations when you will need more than 800W under load, so this power supply is ideal for noise sensitive gamers. A performance oriented dual graphics card system will be demanding between 550 and 700W at the socket, which means this Dark Power Pro 10 1200W supply will be delivering maximum efficiency levels, at around 50 percent total load.

We tested this power supply with an Intel Core i 7 3960X EE, Rampage IV Extreme, Antec H20 920, 8GB of Corsair Dominator GT2400mhz memory and two Nvidia GTX590's in Quad SLi. This is the highest power sapping system we could build for this review, demanding 929 watts at the socket under load.

The BeQuiet! Dark Power Pro 10 1200W had no problems maintaining system stability with the added benefit of being almost silent in operation.

You can buy this power supply from ARIA, for £227.94 inc vat. ARIA also have the full range of BeQuiet! power supplies available over here.

  1. MEGA – that looks great too. slightly out of my price league, but the SLI hardcore gamers with watercooling kits etc will love this. cant believe you built a real world system which took over 900W! wicked.

  2. no stock in ARIA right now, had to get it from SCAN. thanks, good review.

  3. Its a hell of a showcase, but no one, i mean no one needs one of these. 1000W is the maximum anyone could need. as shown on the closing page.

  4. @ Diggler, actually you need to look into the point that a power supply maximum efficiency is around 50 percent load. so if your system hits around 600-700w, then this is ideal. if you can afford the extra cost.

  5. overkill. but yea, impressive.

Seasonic make their own dont they? I think I saw their 1200W on scan recently too. must be the same, right?

  6. Another excellent power supply from bequiet. good review, thanks.

  7. @James The basic design will come from seasonic, but be-quiet will change it and adapt it to their needs. So you could say that they are similar, but not identical. I favor be-quiet over seasonic, because they expand the basic build from seasonic and combine it with additional features. I tried to think about, which PSU to take, enermax, seasonic or be-quiet, and now I’m pretty sure that it will be the be-quiet one.

  8. I have used youre psu in build’s in the past.Would love to have one in my build.
