Inside, we are treated to a Be Quiet! SilentWings USC BQT T12025-MF. This is a 7 blade 120mm fan which can produce over 50cfm of air without generating a racket. Rated volume according to internal documents is said to be 16dBa.
Removing the plastic panels takes a few minutes, and a little care is needed or the little plastic holders can snap. Underneath, the chassis is made from metal which gives it a reassuring weight.
The supply is based around a LLC resonance circuit with a downstream DC/DC converter to offer high levels of efficiency and stability.
According to Be Quiet! the power supply only demands 0.3W or less when in standby mode and it complies with both ErP guidelines and Energy Star 5.0 guidelines. The fan is decoupled from the case which helps reduce vibrations and subsequent noise. There are several long, thin black heatsinks in key areas to help with cooling proficency.
As we noted earlier, the supply can be switched to offer four independent 12V rails, or one combined rail, which is the more common option now for performance oriented enthusiast level power supply configurations. There are a mixture of 105c and 85c rated capacitors throughout.
My friend has an older version and its silent too. great for a silent system build. rather costly though and hard to get here. (import needed)
While it looks bad on some of the test, most people wouldn’t even notice the technical things mentioned in this review. looks like a great supply and almost silent. id buy it. I have an old OCZ PSU and it drives me nuts. Only negative is the 125 asking price. £90 would be acceptable IMO. time to trawl the net.
I bought some of their fans for my media server months ago. forget Noctua, these are the best out there.
the plastic casing is bizarre. seems over elaborate for a PSU in places. especially the plastic hooks to lock them into place.
Very expensive for what you get.
