Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro BQT P9-550W Review (80 Plus Gold)

The Dark Pro BQT P9-550W is an attractive unit, with a dark subdued appearance. The fan is protected behind a series of metal grills.

This is not a pure modular design, the basic cabling is hooked into the supply at the side. Surprisingly, the PSU is covered with plastic, which can be removed with some effort to get underneath to the metal body. The fan grill is a really attractive visual touch which immediately catches the eye.

At the rear, there is a power switch, and a power connector. The vents are the full width of the chassis to ensure the best possible airflow. The plastic casing on this side means that longer screws are needed to install into a standard computer chassis. These are supplied in the bundle so it is important to hang onto them.

The front panel contains all the modular cabling connectors – these are all clearly labeled and ideal for system builders to follow. To the side is an array of case fan connectors which is one of the nicest touches we have seen in recent months as it will really help improve cable routing when attaching multiple case fans. The power supply will also vary the speed of the fans in relation to the ambient temperatures. Additionally, there is a plastic surround on the fascia which helps prevent damage to the cable caused by potential over extension.

  1. My friend has an older version and its silent too. great for a silent system build. rather costly though and hard to get here. (import needed)

  2. While it looks bad on some of the test, most people wouldn’t even notice the technical things mentioned in this review. looks like a great supply and almost silent. id buy it. I have an old OCZ PSU and it drives me nuts. Only negative is the 125 asking price. £90 would be acceptable IMO. time to trawl the net.

  3. I bought some of their fans for my media server months ago. forget Noctua, these are the best out there.

  4. the plastic casing is bizarre. seems over elaborate for a PSU in places. especially the plastic hooks to lock them into place.

  5. Very expensive for what you get.
