Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro BQT P9-550W Review (80 Plus Gold)

The box alone would immediately indicate that this is no ordinary 550w power supply. It is as large as some of the packaging for flagship 1200W power supplies we have reviewed in the past. We also have to give them a bonus point for the design. It really is top drawer.

The box folds out to reveal the power supply sandwiched between a stryofoam protective cover. There are three additional separate boxes surrounding the supply with some literature on top.

The bundle is extensive. There is a multi language manual for the end user, a region specific power cord, fitting screws, a pamphlet on other hardware. Be Quiet! also supply cable ties – plastic and velcro versions. This cables are not compatible or meant to be switched with cables from the previous generation product – the P8.

Cable Amount
MB 20+4 pin x1 (600mm)
CPU 4+4 pin x1 (600mm)
PCI E 8 pin (6 pin +2) x2 (600mm)
PCI E 6 pin x2 (600mm)
Sata power connectors x6 (600mm + 150mm)
Peripheral 4 pin (molex) x4 (600mm + 150mm)
Floppy connector x1

For a 550W power supply there are plenty of cables. It is good to note four PCIE power cables with a 550W rated supply.

The bracket above is an unusual addition to the bundle, but there is a switch on it which can be used to adjust the +12V rail configuration changing between single rail and multiple rails. This doesn't have to be used, there is a looped piece of wire which can be used to change the setting.

  1. My friend has an older version and its silent too. great for a silent system build. rather costly though and hard to get here. (import needed)

  2. While it looks bad on some of the test, most people wouldn’t even notice the technical things mentioned in this review. looks like a great supply and almost silent. id buy it. I have an old OCZ PSU and it drives me nuts. Only negative is the 125 asking price. £90 would be acceptable IMO. time to trawl the net.

  3. I bought some of their fans for my media server months ago. forget Noctua, these are the best out there.

  4. the plastic casing is bizarre. seems over elaborate for a PSU in places. especially the plastic hooks to lock them into place.

  5. Very expensive for what you get.
