Antec High Current Pro Platinum 850W PSU Review

There is no doubt that the Delta designed High Current Pro Platinum range of power supplies are class leading. These power supplies are almost faultless and capable of delivering sustained power delivery in excess of their rating. The Antec High Current Pro Platinum 850W is basically a 1000W power supply, in a thinly veiled disguise.

The appearance of the power supplies will split opinion. We like the understated black design and deep, scratch resistant paint but some people may feel they are a little ‘boring'. The packaging also helps ensure that no damage will occur during shipping, we particularly like the felt bags on both cables and power supply.

The modular panel is densely laid out however Antec have clearly labelled both connectors and cables to help less experienced users during the build process.

Technically the High Current Pro Platinum 850W supply is extremely impressive. It passed all our stress tests, and delivers stable power over 1000 Watts, without a problem. Antec are using only the highest grade Japanese capacitors and mosfets throughout the design.

As Delta are the OEM partner for this range, they are able to include one of their high grade, high performance fans. The AFB1312M used is actually the same fan incorporated into the HCP 1300W unit, so there is no doubt it is over specified inside the 850W supply.

As we might expect, the High Current Pro Platinum units are extremely expensive. Scan are listing the Antec High Current Pro Platinum 850W power supply at £188.22 inc vat. Those of you hoping for a bargain 1000W platinum power supply under the guise of 850W branding will be disappointed.

If you want the highest quality power supply that money can buy, then the Antec High Current Pro Platinum 850W should be right at the top of your shortlist. The seven year warranty helps to sweeten the deal.
