Antec High Current Pro Platinum 850W PSU Review

The Antec High Current Pro Platinum 850W is an attractively finished unit, plain black – ideal to suit any system build. Antec are using an ‘anti scratch' paint coating which works very well. It passed our ‘screwdriver’ test with flying colours. This involves running the head of a Philips head driver down the side of the chassis with light to medium force. After all, how many times have you accidentally connected with a power supply during a system build?

Negatively, it does attract fingerprints easily, but a quick wipe with a cloth removes these.

Antec have labels on both sides of the chassis featuring the company branding and capacity. The 135mm fan is centralised beneath a black grill, with the Antec ‘A' logo in the middle. We will take a closer look at the fan when we open the unit shortly.

One side of the power supply is vented to help improve air flow. There is a power connector and button at the side, shown above.

The modular panel on the Antec High Current Pro Platinum 850W PSU is almost identical to the 1350W version, however one of the modular sections has been removed – not needed on the lower power unit.

On the left side is the simple 2 pin OC link connector which lets the user connect two HCP-850′s together for parallel power. We can’t imagine many people will need 1,700 watts, but the option is certainly welcomed.

The +12V rails are very impressive for a 1000W unit, offering 40A from each. The other rails are identical to the 1300W version, which we reviewed early in April this year.
