Seasonic’s most affordable PSU, the FOCUS GX, gets major upgrades

The Seasonic FOCUS series of power supplies is getting a refresh for 2024. First announced at Computex 2024, the new PSUs from Seasonic's entry-level line-up deliver 80Plus Gold efficiency, as well as the latest ATX 3.1 and PCIe 5.1 standards. Better yet, they are very affordable.

The FOCUS GX (2024) was redesigned with a brand-new PCB layout and is produced using a new manufacturing process involving automated surface mount technology. Improved design also includes the use of smaller MOSFETs and heat sink components, which increases the internal space within the PSU to promote better airflow.

This new approach to PSU cooling design is known as OptiSink, increasing internal space by as much as 48 percent. Due to this, at full load, the power supply can dissipate heat at a faster rate.

Seasonic didn't stop there though. The company has also added another step during manufacturing. In these new units, the MOS is directly soldered onto the copper surface of the PCB to aid in thermal conductivity, doing away with screws and thermal pads.

These new power supplies will be available starting in October 2024 in Europe, and mid-November for the USA. Prices start at €119.90 for the 750W version, going up to €139.90 for the 850W version and finally, €169.90 for the 1000W version.
