Asus Extreme Slim DVD-RW Drive Review (Model: ESEDRW-08-H)

The Asus Extreme Slim DVD-RW Drive (Model: ESEDRW-08-H) is a beautifully designed unit which is sure to appeal to an audience of discerning enthusiast users who demand a product with great build quality and visual appearance. Gone are the days when people accepted cheap, tacky plastic drives … Asus have opted for a sleek brushed aluminum shell.

Those of you who want a capable drive for operating system installs or for a netbook (with no drive installed) then this is going to be an ideal purchase, because it doesn't require a power adapter and can be powered directly from USB ports.

Noise levels are low, and unless you burn audio or data discs at 24x speed you would be hard pressed to tell it was even powered on. At 14mm deep it is a perfect mobile option, because you can easily slide it into a laptop case pocket without adding to the bulk.

This Asus drive is pretty much the ‘perfect' CD/DVD drive on the market, you can move it between systems without the demand for a power adapter and it is quiet, attractive and well built. We can find no fault with the product and it deserves our ‘MUST HAVE' award. Asus have not confirmed pricing just yet, but we will update this page when we get more information.

KitGuru says: Asus make some of the finest optical drives on the market and this Extreme Slim model literally oozes sex appeal.

  1. Very nice indeed. probably be around £50 when it hits.

  2. Ah lovely, shall pick this up. I liked the look of the bluray asus drive you reviewed months ago, but I dont need bluray in a portable drive and it was 150 quid. this should be a third of the price, if im lucky 🙂

  3. I need one of these and hate hauling around adapters. any ideas when it will be available?

  4. Will they make them in colors? I have a Sony laptop without a drive, but its red/pink. id like this to match.

  5. I agree, looks like a perfect design. Hopefully they dont charge over the odds, sometimes asus go a bit nuts with pricing.
