Asus P8P67 Deluxe Motherboard (B3) Review (QuadFireX @ 4.8ghz)

Intel's P67 has had a troubled history, with many enthusiasts initially losing faith in the platform after the widely documented SATA issues went public. With the new B3 revisions Intel have addressed the problems and consumer peace of mind should be sated.

The Asus P8P67 Deluxe is a feature packed board with a fantastic layout, it looks great and performs just as well. The UEFI bios is a pleasure to use and should welcome a whole new generation of newbie overclockers into the fold.

Those with high connectivity demands should be satisfied with four USB 3.0 ports, 12 USB 2.0 ports, FireWire, eSATA and dual gigabit ports. Support for both SLI and CrossfireX configurations will ensure that high performance gamers don't feel shortchanged. Our testing highlights that AMD's HD6990 works well on this board in a QuadFireX setting.

Technically, the digital 16+2 phase power design ensures that stability is paramount, particularly when trying to achieve good overclocks. We achieved 4.8ghz from the 2600k with the Frio, without any effort whatsoever. Simply by increasing the multiplier and the core voltage we achieved a 1.4ghz overclock, there was no need to play about with chipset voltages whatsoever. 5ghz is possible but with the extra voltage needed, more substantial levels of cooling are recommended.

For those of you interested in a new system and unsure of which motherboard to buy, for the modest asking price now of around £180 inc vat, this is certainly one of the most stable and easy to overclock boards on the market.

Pros:

  • Great looking board
  • layout is excellent
  • incredibly easy to overclock
  • bios is very user friendly
  • great support for multiple graphics cards

Cons:

  • The new Z68 platform is just around the corner.

KitGuru says: Want a solid overclock without making much effort? This is one of the best options.

  3. The biggest problem with buying P67 right now is Z68. Is a newer product. no one will be buying until its released. even if its pointless, which I have a feeling it is.

  4. Asus make good boards, its all about the bios stability and power delivery and this product has both.

  5. Good product, but the pricing just keeps creeping up on these boards, everytime I look, its £10 more for xx feature. I remember last year a good board was £120-130.
