Exclusive interview with Asrock COO L L Shiu

We know you shipped over 7 million boards in 2011 and 8 million in 2012. How are you doing in terms of sales now?
“Although the overall motherboard market is shrinking, ASRock motherboard shipment was nearly 7.4 million units last year which still is the world's third largest motherboard brand in 2013. Compared with 2012, ASRock overall revenue has risen 2% in 2013. In the first half of 2014, with Intel new 9 series platform launch in May/June, we are looking forward to increasing to 5-10% shipment volume in comparison with the year 2013. Our full Motherboard product line from Gaming series, Extreme series to Overclocking series will provide end-users with a reasonable price, premium quality and best performance”.

Which markets are strongest for Asrock?  Which countries like Asrock products the most?
“ASRock is the World’s top 3 motherboard brand and the distribution channels are cover electronics stores, PC stores, gadget retailers and online shop. Major sales regions in 2012 included Asia Pacific region accounted for48.22%, Europe for 32.12%, Central and South America mainly accounted for 19.29%, and other markets accounted for only 0.37%. With the new established and dedicated server motherboard and bare bone company (ASROCK RACK Inc.) in Asrock Group, How do you expect this server company will help AS rock to grow in the next 5-10 years?
“In the foreseeable future there is no growth within the PC markets. Instead, Data storage, HPC, datacenter field all have a steady 30% plus growth rate in the coming 5 years. In the past, Asrock Group has successfully gathered a group of Server professionals who all worked in Server ODMs and OEM brand server TW design centers, also the specialist from server related semi-con companies.  Therefore, this company knows the trend of server /computing/ storage markets, and they know what customers need. By leveraging the Asrock group wide-spread channels in the world, the server business will definitely grow very fast and become another boost engine of Asrock group”.

What else can you tell us about Asrock in 2014/15?
“In terms of channel sales side, we have seen more and more end users who have purchased branded motherboards directly from regional online shops. Therefore, we will put more focus on online shops for multiple sales developments in 2014/2015. Of course we will not give up our original channel distribution. For ASRock, establishing the most appropriate distribution strategies is a major key to success. Both online/offline channels are important to ASRock and we distribute our product through both channels”.

“PC Motherboard is still our main product line and we will keep leading global market with our innovative technologies and best after sales service. ASRock’s motherboards can be used to run many kinds of applications. We are scrambling to find new growth opportunities as long as users want ASRock. Meanwhile, ASRock will provide more product lines such as Industrial PC and Server/Workstation for different customers.

For ASRock, we will continue to invest in the DIY and also seek for the chances to extend the market for IPC and Server/Workstation product lines”.
