Unofficial Windows 11 BIOS updates for MSI B450/550 boards have surfaced

As you may know by now, TPM 2.0 is a requirement to install Windows 11. To ensure endusers have their systems ready for Windows 11, motherboard manufacturers are set to release BIOS updates to enable TPM 2.0 by default. MSI seems to be the first to do so, though not officially – at least not yet.

Besides enabling TPM 2.0 by default, Wccftech states that these BIOS updates are also the first to feature AMD AGESA 1.2.0.4 BIOS firmware and the SMU firmware update for Vermeer (Ryzen 5000), Cezanne (Ryzen 5000G) and Picasso (Ryzen 3000G).

For now, only some MSI B450/550 motherboards have this BIOS update, but it should extend to other AMD chipset motherboards soon. Intel chipset-based motherboards are also expected to get an update enabling TPM 2.0 by default.

Right now, here's the list of motherboards with the BIOS updates available:

  • MEG B550 Unify
  • MEG B550 Unify-X
  • MAG B550 Tomahawk
  • MAG B550M Mortar WIFI
  • MAG B550M Mortar
  • B450 Tomahawk Max
  • B450 Tomahawk Max II

Currently, these BIOS are only available through Google Drive, which definitely doesn't look like how MSI would make these updates available. Moreover, the BIOS updates are most likely beta, so you may be better off waiting for a release through MSI's official channels instead of downloading from these.

KitGuru says: If you're planning to update to Windows 11 as soon as it releases, it might be useful to flash your BIOS with this update beforehand. However, we only recommend you do so once the update is available through official channels.
