New MSI BIOS enables Intel APO for Intel Core 14th Gen CPUs

A recent BIOS update for MSI 600/700-series motherboards has introduced support for Intel's Application Optimisation (APO) technology. However, it's worth noting that the APO feature is only compatible with 14th-generation Intel CPUs.

Ghost_motley was the first to spot the new BIOS on the support page of an MSI motherboard. A quick look at MSI's official support page for Z790 and Z690 motherboards confirms that plenty already have a BIOS update available to enable APO.

While the APO feature can deliver an impressive gaming performance uplift (up to 31%), it's currently limited to a select few 14th Gen Intel processors, including the Intel Core i7-14700K, Core i7-14700KF, Core i9-14900K, and Core i9-14900KF. Unfortunately, this means Core i5 users who own MSI motherboards cannot use this feature. However, support for Core i5 processors may be added in the future.

Moreover, APO is only supported in Rainbow Six: Siege and Metro Exodus. While this has a limited impact on the overall PC gaming industry, Intel promised to increase APO compatibility with games in the future.

KitGuru says: Overall, while the APO feature has a lot of potential, its current limitations mean it's not yet widely accessible. Hopefully, future updates will expand compatibility and support for more processors and games.
