MSI Z690/790 BIOS update allows users raise CPU thermal throttle point

The latest Intel consumer CPUs have their throttling point set at around 107ºC. However, with the new feature MSI has added to their new BIOS for MSI Z690 and Z790 Max motherboards, it's now possible to increase the threshold to at least 115ºC.

According to a screenshot shared by @kuroberumo (via Wccftech), a new feature called “CPU Fast Throttle Threshold” has been added with the latest BIOS update. This feature is intended to increase the CPU temperature limit over the usual safety settings.

The CPU's throttling threshold is normally set at 107°C, however, users may increase it with this setting to a maximum of 115°C (TjMax). You can also manually input the limit you wish to set, but note that this feature seems to be only compatible with 14th Gen Core CPUs.

When overclocked, the high-end Core i9 SKUs will undoubtedly use a lot of power. Such capabilities are critical to ensuring the CPU's ongoing boost capacity, particularly when the cooling solution is insufficient. Even so, users should ensure that their cooling systems are designed to sustain extended high-temperature conditions, which tend to be higher when overclocking. It's also important to remember that any changes to the BIOS OC settings should be considered overclocking and may invalidate the warranty.
