Intel Z790 motherboards to be announced by late August

As we know, Intel is gearing up to launch its 13th Gen Core “Raptor Lake” processors in the second half of this year and as usual, that also means new motherboards. According to reports this week, 700-series motherboards will be announced by the end of August.

According to Moore's Law Is Dead Z790 motherboards are expected to be announced soon, likely just before the first Raptor Lake desktop processors. Validation of these boards is set to begin in August before production starts, matching rumours regarding the September/October release date.

It is also claimed that Z790 can also support PCIe M.2 5.0 SSDs. That's a considerable upgrade over the 600-series boards, which lack support for PCIe 5.0 M.2 SSDs, despite having support for PCIe 5.0 technology.

KitGuru says: Intel introducing PCIe 5.0 M.2 SSD support comes as no surprise considering AMD will do just that with its new generation of motherboards. Based on the rumours and reports, both platforms should be pretty similar, meaning the only differences between the two may be pricing and CPU performance.
