Visiontek Ultimate Performance 12GB / 24GB PC3-14900 CL10 1866mhz Review

The Ultimate Performance 12GB 1866mhz memory kit is another fantastic release from Visiontek. We have reviewed other 12gb products from ADATA and Kingston, but they have all been 1600mhz rated memory and in a triple channel configuration the 4GB sticks prove difficult to overclock.

The Visiontek memory didn't overclock for us either, but we didn't have high expectations beforehand knowing the 4GB(x3) triple channel limitations of the X58 platform. At least at 1866mhz frequencies there is a little more bandwidth ‘out of the box'.

As highlighted in the review Visiontek did send us two 12GB kits and we experienced no problems when using 24GB of this memory at the rated timings. Gamers will never have a need for 24GB of memory, but for 3D modelling artists and demanding Adobe Photoshop work it can be extremely beneficial. We highlighted some of these benefits in a previous article, over here. Also If you are the kind of person to open a plethora of applications and work in an intensive multi tasking environment, then more is always better.

Another benefit with this memory is that Visiontek are using a slightly reduced memory heatspreader size when compared with other designs from companies such as Kingston. They may still cause problems with some of the largest CPU coolers, but they offer wider compatibility.

Pricing right now hasn't been confirmed, but they should be on sale soon from Amazon, and we would expect the pricing to be competitive. Visiontek also offer a lifetime warranty, which is reassuring for the customer.

Pros:

  • Fastest 12gb triple channel memory kit we have tested for X58.
  • Works great in 24gb configuration
  • Lifetime warranty.

Cons:

  • Overclocking is limited, like every 12gb triple channel kit we have tested to date.

Kitguru says: Visiontek have made a fantastic re-entry into the memory sector with their latest Ultimate Performance Kits.

  1. I like the way they have used a mid size heatspreader.

  2. I cant see their memory products for sale anywhere. Can you ask what countries they are supporting please? is it just america?

  3. awesome, I wish I had 24GB of ram. cant wait to see the quad kits for the upcoming intel platform !

  4. They seem to be getting a good supply from the far east for this range. im impressed.

  5. Quality, always liked Visiontek. nice to see them back into the ram business.

  6. I think these are USA only. which is a real shame as I need quality memory for my X58 system 🙁

  7. I never understood why kingston went for the massive heatspeaders. even these aren’t needed. just keep them small guys, then we never have to worry about coolers.

  8. Lifetime warranty, great performance. but how much? and where? my friend went to buy the sandybridge kit and can’t find it anywhere.

  9. Read the other review on the 1600MHz and it seems Visiontek seems to be poised well. I’d like to attempt overclocking a 24GB kit on my own though…
