Patriot Viper ‘Black Mamba’ 2133mhz Gen 3 16GB review

The Patriot packaging for the Viper Black Mamba memory is very simple – almost like the famous Metallica album cover. Keep it black!

We are testing two of the 8GB kits today in QUAD Channel.

Each of the kits is protected inside tough, clear plastic. Nothing else is included in the package.

The Viper ‘Black Mamba' memory is encased in black heatspreaders with the name on the front. These aren't oversized heatspreaders and they fit underneath the Noctua NH D14, which is a bonus for those considering a large physical heatsink.

Patriot claim that all these kits are individually hand tested and validated for system compatibility. We aren't exactly sure what this means, but we would assume they are only released if they pass a factory stress test.

Each stick has the size and speed listed along with the timings, which are 11-11-11-27. These aren't the tightest timings for a 2,133mhz kit, but we still hope there is some overclocking headroom later in the review.

The aluminum heatspreaders are difficult to remove, as they are thermally bonded to each memory module on the black PCB – modest pressure and patience are needed. We wouldn't advise you try this, that is why we are here.

Patriot are using high grade Hynix DDR3 H5TQ2GB3CFR memory on the Black Mamba sticks, so we are confident they will overclock manually to 2,400mhz.

  1. great looking memory, gskill is £7 cheaper in UK though 😉

  2. like the heatspreaders, would have liked to see the inside of them however, are they copper?

  3. Metallica ram? Patriot should pay LARS ulrich to use them for drumsticks on the next tour, for a laugh.

  4. Pretty disappointed you don’t mention anything about voltages apart from ‘it defaulted to 1.65v’ on the 4th page. So what volts did you actually test the ram at and did they run at the advertised 1.5v????

    Sweet looking memory!Nice review!

  6. What about FPS gaming performance? raising the speed and increasing the timings is all well and good, but will drop the framerates. Any chance you can also test RAM in games next time? As gamers upgrade their RAM as much as other users, your review didn’t really help me much.
