The Viper ‘Black Mamba' 2,133mhz is a fantastic kit from Patriot, with a striking black appearance which will look great in any windowed system build. The fact that Patriot have adopted small profile heatspreaders is a bonus, because they pair up fine with the latest, oversized heatsinks.
Performance is just as impressive, as the Viper ‘Black Mamba' can deliver 45 GB/s of bandwidth at the default timings in a Quad Channel configuration.
Overclocking the Viper ‘Black Mamba' isn't difficult, and by simply relaxing the RAS to CAS delay from 11 to 12, stability was achieved at 2,400mhz. The system was perfectly stable throughout our intensive stress testing, and this enhanced the memory bandwidth to over 50 GB/s.
The memory sector is cutthroat and pricing is all important and initially we were slightly concerned at the price point. Overclockers in the UK had an 8GB kit in stock for £69.98 inc vat, but just before publication they reduced this price.
Overclockers just dropped to £47.99 inc vat today, a reduction of £22 for a single 8GB kit.
At these prices, it is difficult to ignore. We would class this as 2,400mhz memory (in disguise), and at less than £100 for 16GB it is a heck of a good deal. You can preorder this memory today from Overclockers UK.
Pros:
- looks fantastic.
- heatspreaders aren't oversized.
- quality hynix modules on black PCB.
- overclocks to 2,400mhz with little effort.
- great value for money.
- lifetime warranty.
Cons:
- The competition in the memory sector is intense.
You can win 24GB of this memory in a competition running until the middle of August 2012. Check it out over here!
Kitguru says: A must have purchase, especially at the price point. As we highlighted today, this memory will work perfectly in quad channel, delivering over 50 GB/s of bandwidth.
great looking memory, gskill is £7 cheaper in UK though 😉
like the heatspreaders, would have liked to see the inside of them however, are they copper?
Metallica ram? Patriot should pay LARS ulrich to use them for drumsticks on the next tour, for a laugh.
Pretty disappointed you don’t mention anything about voltages apart from ‘it defaulted to 1.65v’ on the 4th page. So what volts did you actually test the ram at and did they run at the advertised 1.5v????
Sweet looking memory!Nice review!
What about FPS gaming performance? raising the speed and increasing the timings is all well and good, but will drop the framerates. Any chance you can also test RAM in games next time? As gamers upgrade their RAM as much as other users, your review didn’t really help me much.
