Patriot Viper Steel Series 3600MHz 64GB (2x32GB) Review

Gaming Tests

Gaming-related performance comes out reasonably. 3DMark Time Spy puts the 64GB Patriot set in the middle of our hierarchy, and we see the same positioning with Shadow of the Tomb Raider FPS numbers. A key benefit of the Patriot 64GB set in these scenarios is the spare capacity to handle significant background tasks.

Overclocking

We upped the DRAM voltage to 1.45V and 1.5V but could not push the SpecTek modules in the Patriot Viper Steel sticks past their rated 3600MHz frequency. Instead, we switched our focus to maintaining the 3600MHz clock whilst tightening the primary timings.

Our best result using a 1.45V DRAM voltage was 3600MHz with timings tightened to 16-21-21. That represents a slim overclock from the 18-22-22 default timings, but CL16 is always a welcomed running configuration, nevertheless.

Further time spent tweaking may reveal additional headroom. But our numbers indicate that the SpecTek memory ICs are close to their limit at the out-of-the-box XMP configuration set by Patriot.
