Samsung announces 8.5Gbps LPDDR5X memory

Samsung keeps pushing the limits of LPDDR5X memory. Recently, the company announced their LPDDR5X chips, capable of achieving 8.5Gbps speeds, 1Gbps more than Samsung's previous maximum announced in March 2022.

LPDDR memory is the most common type of memory used on mobile devices. However, it's starting to be used in other fields due to its combination of high performance and low power consumption. Some industries where we're seeing this include PCs, high-performance computing (HPC), servers and automobiles. In the future, Samsung believes LPDDR memory will also be used in other industries, namely artificial intelligence (AI) and the metaverse.

Samsung has been at the forefront of this technology for some years, and the new LPDDR5X-8500 memory is proof of that. Compared to the previously fastest LPDDR5X memory from Samsung, the new one is 1Gbps faster.

The new memory has already been validated for use on Snapdragon mobile platforms, meaning it shouldn't take long before phone and tablet manufacturers start using it on their devices. With that in mind, expect to see the first devices using LPDDR5X-8500 in late 2022/early 2023.
