Intel 700 and AMD 600-series motherboards will soon support up to 256GB memory

MSI and ASRock have increased support for up to 192GB of memory capacity on their AMD-based 600-series motherboards earlier this year. However, that limit is about to be pushed even higher. The companies have recently announced that their motherboards can support even larger memory sizes, up to 256GB for 4 DIMMs and 128GB for 2 DIMMs.

Although MSI and ASRock were the only ones to announce the increase in memory capacity on their motherboards, other vendors should soon follow suit. While MSI focused more on the AMD platform for the announcement, ASRock used both an AMD-based motherboard (X670E-Taichi) and an Intel-based motherboard (Z790 Nova WiFi).

To show proof of its achievement, MSI shared a screenshot where we see a system using an AMD Ryzen 9 7900X, an MSI Pro X670-P WIFI, and four modules of Kingston Fury Renegade DDR5 memory boasting 64GB capacity each. These modules were built on Micron's industry-leading 1 (1-beta) technology.

As of now, the motherboard manufacturers have yet to release a BIOS update to increase memory capacity, but they should be available soon.
