ADATA DashDrive Elite 500GB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive Review

The ADATA DashDrive Elite HE720 is the thinnest external hard drive out there. It has a serious, ‘professional' design, and will deal with a rough working environment, thanks to its scratch resistant brushed stainless steel surface.

While the ADATA DashDrive might not come pre-installed with the best applications on the market, the software that is available to download free is still good. The ‘ADATA Sync' software really could do with some design work, but it is very functional. It is also very quick to set it up on a new computer, just what you want for work or school.

In terms of performance, the transfer speeds are very good. In fact, this is one of the fastest USB 3.0 external hard disk drives on the market today. Even when compared to the fast Seagate GoFlex Pro Ultra-Portable 750GB Drive it claims the top performance spot.

Overall, we were very impressed with this device. It looks good, performs well and has a neat One-Touch Backup button which really will make backing up very simple. The only thing it lacks is a carry case which means the cable will need to be carried in a pocket, easily lost when moving around.

The ADATA DashDrive Elite HE720 500 GB can be purchased for £63.29 from Amazon.co.uk, which is competitive, especially when factoring in the class leading USB 3.0 transfer speeds.

Pros

  • Great performance.
  • Looks good.
  • One-Touch Backup.

Cons

  • No carry case to keep cable close to device.
  • Software is a little basic.

Kitguru says: A down-to-earth device that looks good and performs well.
