To test power consumption today we are using a Keithley Integra unit and we measure power consumption from the VGA card inputs, not the system wide drain. We measure results while gaming in Crysis Warhead and record the results.
In such an energy aware climate, AMD are making a big deal out of their new ‘ZeroCore Power’ technology. Many solutions today use power gating, clock gating and memory compression to reduce idle power requirements, but ZeroCore power technology can completely power down the core GPU while the rest of the system remains active.
Strong efficiency results as the card demands around 187 watts when gaming, dropping to 4 watts when in the long idle state.
great looking board, but it looks like it might be more than £400………
I love the look of this card, like the 7970. Still too much cash for most people, they need a good performing card around £200. not £350-£500. very few people can afford any of these cards
Not questioning the hardware, but its such a small market. Im more interested in the £150 sector. and what AMD can do for that.
isn the logical move to buy the cheapest 7950 and just overclock the nuts off it ? dont see any need to spend a lot more above this, for a cooler.
Dont see this version on sale yet.
