VTX3D HD7870 Black Review (Tahiti LE)

To overclock today we relied on the Catalyst Control Center, no software fully supports this card yet, apart from the AMD reference package.

There was a huge amount of headroom on our review sample. We managed to push the core from 975mhz to a whopping 1,155mhz, almost 20% extra! The memory maxed out around 1,600mhz (6.4Gbps effective). Increasing the voltage didn't make a difference to the end result.

This significant overclock translated to a considerable 600 points increase in 3Dmark, scoring over 8,500 points. This is around 2,000 points more than the reference HD7870.

  1. for F*(k sake, I got a 7870 for my downstairs pc. sighs……..

  2. My own HD7870 scores 2.1k less in 3dmark 11. yeah thats a nice upgrade for the same price as the last HD7870.

  3. looks like a good card, I like the cooler design, its very neat. not like some of those HIS monsters which take up 1/3 extra space.

all the free games with it is cool too.

  4. ordered one, cant wait 🙂

  5. Will this be available in the US soon and if yes, at what price can we expect this to launch at? I’m very interested in it.

  6. Hi alex, i would say it will hit there, pricing should be similar… Worth checking newegg. Other partners will have them in the new year, so ive been told.

  7. Powercolor has this card now, it’s the mystery edition 7870pcs+. I’m wondering if any full cover waterblock would fit these cards?
