MSI R6950 Twin Frozr III Power Edition Review

Far Cry 2 (commonly abbreviated as “FC2 or “fc2″) is an open-ended first-person shooter developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. It was released on October 21, 2008 in North America and on October 23, 2008 in Europe and Australia. It was made available on Steam on October 22, 2008. Crytek, the developers of the original game, were not involved in the development of Far Cry 2.

Ubisoft has marketed Far Cry 2 as the true sequel to Far Cry, though the sequel has very few noticeable similarities to the original game. Instead, it features completely new characters and setting, as well as a new style of gameplay that allows the player greater freedom to explore different African landscapes such as deserts, jungles, and savannas. The game takes place in a modern-day East African nation in a state of anarchy and civil war. The player takes control of a mercenary on a lengthy journey to locate and assassinate “The Jackal,” a notorious arms dealer.

Far Cry 2 is still a popular game and the open world environment can be taxing on even the latest hardware available today.

Settings: 1920×1200, D3D10, Disable Artificial Intelligence(No), Full Screen, Anti-Aliasing(8x), VSync(No), Overall Quality(Ultra High), Vegetation(Very High), Shading(Ultra High), Terrain(Ultra High), Geometry(Ultra High), Post FX(High), Texture(Ultra High), Shadow(Ultra High), Ambient(High), Hdr(Yes), Bloom(Yes), Fire(Very High), Physics(Very High), RealTrees(Very High).

Far Cry 2 has proven a popular title, with a demanding Direct X 10 engine. even at these high settings the MSI card is able to power the engine, maintaining frame rates in excess of 50 at all times.

  1. Their coolers are really very good, we get a very low return rate on these cards.

  2. Good deal on OCUk for that card. especially with two free, and very tasty games.

The big question is, with AMD about to release a new range of cards (well in a few months at least), is anyone opting for one of these now?

  3. Really good looking card as usual from MSI. I never see them listed in many sites. Do scan even stock them?

  4. I have one of these and its very good. I have problems with overclocking it however and I had hoped you might do better. mine is limited to 910mhz and it crashes 🙁

  5. Quite a sexy card. Can’t wait until MSI will realease TwinFrozr III as retail cooler.

  6. A very good and complete review. Just one question. Due to a discusion on the dutch site hardware.info it became clear that using the latest version of the drivers has a significant effect on the results. I would like to know if the results of the other cards as used in your graphs are also obtained using the same driver versions. If these are older results with older drivers then it might be a good idea to mention the driver version / date with the different test scores for the different cards.

I just like to mention that i frequently use this site to keep abreast of al the latest tech news. Keep up the good work.
