The Colossus arrives in a plain looking box with a high resolution image of the PCI express card at the bottom. To the left are some key selling points, for people browsing in a retail store.
The bundle is extensive. It contains a software disc (with Arcsoft ShowBiz and WinTV V7), remote controller with batteries, two sets of component cable adapters, component cables, IR blaster and receiver cable. This IR blaster can let the end user change channels on a set top box directly via the Colossus.
The card is a full height PCI Express design which doesn't demand a seperate power source, taking enough from the socket.
The card has an HDMI port, A/V Input, A/V Output, Optical Input, Optical Output and IR Blaster output. It is worth mentioning that the HDMI input will not work with encrypted video sources. For those interested, the card can record 5.1 surround sound.
Cool ideal, and its much better than USB. It just seems rather expensive to me, but maybe im out of date on pricing.
Interesting idea. I could never get hauppauge products to work, the last time i bought one, it drove me nuts. I had a digital tv box from them and the software was dire.
Nifty gadget, but I wouldn’t really use it. I think hauppauge might run into a problem as more of the set top boxes such as sky etc have already got recording options.
Perhaps its useful if you want to record to PC for uploading elsewhere….
Never really looked at one of hauppauges products before, although they stock them in our local ‘tech supermarket’. They are quite expensive, generally.
I have to agree, I bought a hauppauge tv tuner years ago and the damn thing never worked right from day one. Lost all faith in this company.
