Nvidia is releasing an RTX remaster of Valve’s Portal

Nvidia's in-house Lightspeed Studios has worked with several game developers in recent years to bring RTX features to various titles. During that time, this team has also created its own fully ray-traced remasters of games like Quake II and Minecraft. Today, alongside the RTX 40 launch, Nvidia announced Portal RTX.

Nvidia Lightspeed Studios used its own Omniverse tools to create Portal RTX. This won't be a separate version of the game, but it will instead be made available as a mod, free for all owners of the original game.

As you can see from the trailer, Nvidia has touched up many areas of the game to really bring out the best visuals ray-tracing can deliver. This version of the game will also support DLSS 3, an upgraded version of DLSS for the new ADA graphics architecture. Unlike DLSS 2.0, DLSS 3 can predict and generate new frames to further speed up performance.

Portal RTX will be available as a free DLC for Portal owners starting in November.

KitGuru Says: The trailer for Portal RTX looked great and for many, this will be a great reason to revisit a classic. With RTX Remix releasing as a publicly available tool, we may see even more impressive RTX remasters for games in the future.
