Kingpin graphics cards may continue without EVGA

It has been one week since EVGA announced that it is ending its partnership with Nvidia and will be exiting the GPU market. As many enthusiasts will know, EVGA would previously work with overclocker ‘Kingpin' to release ultra high-performance graphics cards. Now, with EVGA pulling out of GPUs, Kingpin seems to be open to a new home.

For generations, EVGA has launched a flagship ‘Kingpin' branded GPU with better cooling and higher clock speeds. These graphics cards were expensive, but also quite popular amongst enthusiasts. While EVGA did say it wouldn't be firing any of its employees over the Nvidia split, it does lead to an awkward situation where GPU specialists suddenly no longer have any work to do – including Kingpin.

In a Facebook post this week (via PCGamer), Vince “Kingpin” Lucido thanked supporters, adding that while he isn't pleased with the situation, he is “mostly sorry for the fans”. As far as future Kingpin hardware is concerned, the door remains open for Lucido to continue his work at another vendor. He ends off the post writing “If the KP hardware is meant to continue on in one way or another, I'm sure that it will”.

While companies like MSI, ASUS, Gigabyte and others do employ professional overclockers, this is usually done in an effort to chase world records once new hardware drops. Still, perhaps now with EVGA out of the market, one of these companies will look to collaborate with Kingpin on a new flagship graphics card.

KitGuru Says: The Kingpin graphics cards have always impressed and they do sell, so I imagine a number of companies are interested. Which GPU maker do you think Kingpin should team up with next?
