Gigabyte RTX 4090/RTX 4080 revision reinforces PCB to avoid cracks

One of the most surprising things with Nvidia's latest generation of gaming graphics cards was the size and weight increase. With the RTX 4090 and RTX 4080, graphics cards are bigger than ever, sporting massive heatsinks that rival what you would find inside of a dedicated games console. Some versions of these graphics cards have unfortunately suffered issues like PCB cracks, but Gigabyte is rectifying this situation for its customers.

Gigabyte is updating the PCB on its RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 graphics cards. With the new revision 1.1 for both cards, Gigabyte has swapped to a wider PCB design with more space around the PCIe connector, following reports from users that noticed cracks forming in the PCB around the power connector.

This redesigned PCB will be found on newer SKU versions of Gigabyte RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 graphics cards, as well as on the new RTX 4080 Super, which just launched a couple of weeks ago. Buyers on Reddit (via PCGN) were quick to pick up on the revision and its changes.

Many RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 graphics cards use the same cooler designs, despite the fact that the RTX 4080 doesn't run quite as hot as an RTX 4090. This has led to some impressively quiet high-end RTX 4080s, but the trade-off is that PC builders need to be more mindful while building. Utilising a GPU support bracket is practically a must for this latest round of graphics cards, or alternatively, you could mount your GPU vertically if your case supports it.
