AMD unveils RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 XT graphics cards

As rumoured, today at Gamescom, AMD officially announced its next batch of gaming graphics cards – the RX 7800 XT and the RX 7700 XT. Both pack the latest RDNA 3 technology, with a Navi 32 GPU powering them, targeting those looking to game at 1440p.

AMD is putting the RX 7800 XT up against the RTX 4070 in its testing. While Nvidia wins out in titles tested with ray-tracing on (with a couple of exceptions), AMD sees the RX 7800 XT gaining a decent lead over the RTX 4070 in traditional rasterisation in games like Cyberpunk 2077, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. You can see the full chart of benchmarks below:

For the RX 7700 XT, AMD puts it up against the RTX 4060 Ti. Here, the RX 7700 XT does a better job of matching the RTX 4060 Ti in ray-tracing benchmarks and it is claimed to be much faster in rasterisation for games like Cyberpunk 2077, The Last of Us Part 1, Hogwarts Legacy, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Red Dead Redemption:

AMD has been working on FSR 3 with its own version of Frame Generation for a while now. During a presentation, AMD showed a few examples of FSR 3 running in Forspoken. At 4K with the Ultra-High RT setting, we see frame rates going from 36 FPS in the open world to over 120 FPS. At 1440p, the frame rate can jump from around 60 FPS to over 100 FPS.

FSR 3 will be launching in games like Forspoken, Immortals of Aveum, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Black Myth Wukong, Cyberpunk 2077 and more.

Just over a year ago, Bethesda Games Studios released Starfield – a ‘big space game’ which had been ruminating in Todd Howard’s mind for over 25 years. Despite its grand ambitions, the title saw a mixed reaction from fans, though positive critic reviews. Unfortunately, it seems as though Starfield’s first expansion ‘Shattered Space’ has failed to impress players on both sides.
