AMD releases Fluid Motion Frames 2 Preview driver

This week, AMD has launched the latest AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition Technical Preview, finally bringing AMD Fluid Motion Frames 2 to the masses.

AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) is AMD's answer to DLSS Frame Generation for Radeon GPUs. At this time, AFMF 2 is only officially supported on Radeon RX 6000 and RX 7000 series GPUs and select AMD Ryzen processors.

With AFMF 2, users will benefit from significant improvements, with updated algorithms to improve frame generation smoothness, and more controls so users can adjust settings to their preference. This includes a new performance mode, which reduces the overhead of AFMF 2 to help make high-frame rates more achievable on a wider range of devices, something that is particularly useful for those using integrated graphics.

With improved algorithms to smooth out Frame Generation, AMD has also improved latency, which will help those higher frame rates feel more impactful for gameplay. According to AMD's own tests, with Cyberpunk 2077 running on an RX 7900 XTX at 4K with AFMF 2 enabled, latency is reduced by a further 28% compared to the previous version of AFMF. On Radeon 780M graphics, Counter-Strike 2 runs with 12% lower latency at 1080p with AFMF 2.

This is a Preview driver, so if you aren't prepared to potentially deal with some frustrations, then we'd recommend waiting for a stable release. However, if you want to get your hands on AFMF 2 as soon as possible, then go nuts, you can always roll back later. You can find the AMD Software: Adrendalin Edition Preview Driver for AFMF 2, HERE.
