Some RTX 4080s are now shipping with a new AD103-301 GPU configuration

As far as we know, all Nvidia RTX 4080 graphics cards use AD103 GPUs. Up until now, the only variant of this GPU used for the RTX 4080 was AD103-300, but it seems a new AD103 configuration is in the works. This new variant is known as AD103-301, and it may even bring down some manufacturing costs for RTX 4080 cards.

HKEPC (via VideoCardz) was the first to suggest that upcoming RTX 4080 graphics cards would start using the AD103-301 GPU. It seems he was correct, as Gainward China has already confirmed that its RTX 4080 cards can either pack the AD103-300 GPU variant or the AD103-301 one. Regardless of which GPU variant is being used, the specifications of these cards remain unaltered.

Changing to the new variant shouldn't bring any difference in performance, but it may help bring production costs down, as reports claim the latest variants require a few changes to existing PCB designs. We may even see the price of these cards drop down, with some luck, but don't expect anything significant.

Besides the new variant for the RTX 4080 cards, HKEPC also mentioned that the upcoming RTX 4070 cards would feature AD104-250/251 GPUs, with the former requiring a comparator circuit. VideoCardz corroborates this by adding that the AD104-250 variants will be the first to hit the market, followed by the 251 GPUs a few weeks later. Moreover, it also suggested that the 251 variants would require fewer components, which should also reduce its manufacturing cost.
