Nvidia RTX 4080 Super may get an increase to 20GB VRAM

Another source has joined in on the recent RTX 40 Super rumours. We've already heard that Nvidia is apparently planning Super variants of the RTX 4070, RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 4080. It was previously claimed that the RTX 4070 Super would see a memory increase and it looks like the RTX 4080 Super will get similar treatment.

Nvidia often provides early information to board partners and operates without naming these changes. As a result, when AIB graphics card manufacturers detect a new model using the same board architecture as the RTX 4080 but with a different memory configuration, it strongly signals that a Super or Ti upgrade is on the way.

Benchlife has heard that the rumoured RTX 4080 upgrade may include 20GB of RAM (most likely GDDR6X). Because they haven't expressly labelled it as a Super variant, it may just be another RTX 4080. Nonetheless, given that Nvidia already cancelled an RTX 4080 12GB variant, this looks unlikely.

The utilisation of a 20GB memory configuration necessitates a larger 320-bit memory bus, which might explain prior rumours stating that the RTX 4080 would employ the AD102 GPU (AD103 is limited to a 256-bit memory bus). A similar case is expected to happen with the RTX 4070 Super, which could come with 16GB of VRAM and an AD103 GPU.

KitGuru says: All of this is based on rumours. Neither Nvidia nor any other credible source has publicly confirmed the RTX 40 Super series. However, we'll be keeping an eye out for more evidence over the next few months.
