Latest Nvidia drivers quietly add support for upcoming RTX workstation laptop GPUs

Nvidia RTX 40 series laptop GPUs will be available on numerous laptops soon. However, the company has yet to announce any SKUs for portable workstations. Based on recent findings, these should be currently in development, as recent graphics drivers already support them.

According to StefanG3d from LaptopVideo2Go (via VideoCardz), the latest Nvidia graphics drivers introduced support for four unannounced laptop GPUs. Judging by the product names datamined, these are unannounced Ada-based RTX workstation GPUs for laptops.

Each of these SKUs has a unique device ID to identify them:

  • NVIDIA_DEV.2730 = “NVIDIA RTX 5000 Ada Generation Laptop GPU”
  • NVIDIA_DEV.27BB = “NVIDIA RTX 3500 Ada Generation Laptop GPU”
  • NVIDIA_DEV.2838 = “NVIDIA RTX 3000 Ada Generation Laptop GPU”
  • NVIDIA_DEV.28B8 = “NVIDIA RTX 2000 Ada Generation Laptop GPU”

We still don't know much about these GPUs, but reports have already shared a few specs. The RTX 5000 Ada Laptop GPU would be equivalent to the RTX 4090 laptop GPU, so you can expect it to feature an AD103 chip and 16GB of GDDR6 memory  (256-bit memory bus). As for the RTX 3500 Ada, it should be based on the AD104 GPU and feature 12GB of GDDR6 memory across a 192-bit memory bus.

In the mid-range segment, the RTX 3000 reportedly packs an AD106 GPU, while the RTX 2000 Ada comes with an AD107 GPU. Both should feature 128-bit memory buses and 4GB (RTX 2000) and 8GB (RTX 3000) of GDDR6 memory. With GTC (Graphics Technology Conference) scheduled for March 20th, there's a good chance we'll hear more about these SKUs by then.
